BMW R1300 GS Adv: Imminent Debut and Everything You Need to Know

The wait for the BMW R1300 GS Adv is finally over. Approved from 31 May 2024, the new bike is ready to make its entry onto the market, bringing with it a series of technical improvements and innovations compared to the previous model. MOTORRAD has examined the main features of the new GSA, comparing it with the BMW R1300GS standard and the previous one BMW R1250 GS Adventure .

Approval and News

There BMW R1300GS Adventure , abbreviated to GSA, has been officially approved in Switzerland and introduced with a new automatic transmission ASA (Automatic Shift Assistant). This innovation enables smooth and seamless gear changes, enhancing the riding experience. Although full technical data is not yet available, the data provided for approval reveals significant differences compared to the R1300 GS.

Powerful Performance

The new BMW R 1300 GS Adv maintains its maximum power of 145 hp (107 kW) at 7,750 rpm, with a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. These specifications make it a powerful and high-performance motorcycle, capable of tackling any terrain with ease. However, the GSA is approved for a top speed of 220 km/h, which is slightly lower than the R 1300 GS. Compared to the R 1250 GS Adventure, the new 1300 GSA offers 9 hp more, 6 Nm more torque and a 7 km/h higher top speed.

Weight and Tank

A significant aspect of the new GSA is its weight. With an increase of 21 kg over the R 1300 GS, the GSA reaches a total ready-to-ride weight of 271 kg. This also makes it 3 kg heavier than the R 1250 GSA. The fuel tank volume, while not specified, is expected to be larger than the R 1300 GS, similar to the 30 litres of the 1250 GSA. Load capacity has also increased, with the new GSA able to carry up to 485 kg, 20 kg more than the R 1300 GS.

Dimensions and Height

The BMW R1300 GS Adv is slightly shorter than the R 1300 GS, with an overall length of 2,208 mm, 4 mm less than the GS and 62 mm less than the 1250 GSA. However, the height has increased significantly, reaching between 1,538 and 1,588 mm, depending on the windshield. This increase in height suggests a redesigned front end and a sporty setup with 20 mm more spring travel.

Tires and Wheels

Unlike other large travel enduros, the new BMW R1300 GS Adv does not adopt a 21-inch front wheel. Instead, it retains the familiar wheel-tyre combination of 120/70 R19 at the front and 170/60 R17 at the rear, with no options for other tyres.

Launch and Price

With homologation completed, the new BMW R1300 GS Adv will likely be presented and available for purchase from late summer or early autumn 2024. It could make its debut at the BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch in July, and will certainly be available as a 2025 model. The expected price for the new 1300 GSA will be above 20,000 euros, considering that the BMW R1300 GS Adv currently starts at 19,950 euros.
